At around 11.20 UK time we became aware of an "out of memory" issue affecting the UK server.
The server was rebooted as quickly as possible to resolve the problem.

Single Sign-On (SSO) is possible from FinalSite into CHQ via a FinalSite plug-in.

The plug-in is configured for you by FinalSite support in conjunction with CHQ - please contact FinalSite in the first instance for information and feasibility of using the plugin in your school.

The CHQ PowerSchool plugin supports single sign-on (SSO) for teachers, students and guardians.

In order to activate this aspect of the plugin, you should follow these steps:
  • Go into plugin management in the PowerSchool system settings and select the CHQ plugin
  • SSO is supported by the plugin starting at version 1.0; if you have a lower version number installed you should upgrade your plugin - please contact CHQ Support to request the up to date plugin for your CHQ site.
  • Click the SSO Settings link on the plugin. You will then need to select an SSL certificate to use for the SSO function from the drop-down. If no certificate is available you can add new ones from within the Digital Certificate management tool in the PowerSchool system settings.
  • CHQ needs to be configured with the public key of the certificate that you have selected for the plugin. Please use the "export" function from the Digital Certificate management area of PowerSchool system settings, then send it to CHQ Support on a ticket so that it can be added for you.

Once the configuration is complete, your PowerSchool users should be able to transfer to their CHQ Home page by clicking the "CHQ Extra-Curricular" link in the PowerSchool Applications pop-up.

Several schools have contacted us today to inform us that since they applied the latest SIMS Update they are experiencing very poor response times in SIMS while the CHQ data interface is running.
We have found that the culprit is the extraction of the student timetable from SIMS. This is achieved in the same way as all other data feeds coming from SIMS, by running a SIMS report.
It would appear that the report for student timetables which typically ran in under 30 seconds will take many thousands of seconds to run in SIMS v7.174.

Within an hour of being made aware of the problem, we have identified the cause and have raised the issue with Capita SIMS Partner Support. To minimise the impact of the poor SIMS report performance on your school users, we have removed the student timetable sync from all but the Overnight interface run.

Update 27/04/2017: Capita Partner Support have been able to reproduce the issue, which is due to a database view used by our student timetable SIMS report, and are working on a patch.

The attached file illustrates how the "forgotten your user or password" function works in CHQ.

An incident on our UK server meant the site was out for around 15 minutes; we apologise for the inconvenience.

A number of users reported slow performance and an inability to get to the Singapore server ( this morning. It would appear that this is related to an issue with one of our hosting provider's storage nodes, which caused extreme slowness and this is affecting our server. However, the problem has been fixed so performance should be back to normal once the high I/O due to partition recovery has completed.

The UK site will be moved to a brand new dedicated server on Sunday 15th June from 9.30am. The new server will give a significant performance boost to the system to benefit all our users in the UK and middle-east. Every effort will be made to minimise the down-time, but we expect the site to be unavailable for up to two hours.

For the past week, since the upgrade of our hosting for the UK server to Windows 2013, has experienced regular repeating restarts every two minutes on average. The result of this is occasional response time delays while the application restarts, and the loss of session data. The session data loss can be classed as only mildly irritating (the "you are here" breadcrumb trail is lost, for example). The restarts also have other more critical effects - for example if the application restarts while you are sending a broadcast message, you will no doubt see a nasty red error page, and have no real idea whether your email was sent to all the intended recipients or not.

Our UK site is hosted for us so we have been in constant communication with our hosting provider on this issue since it first arose. A number of avenues are being investigated to determine the cause, so far without success. If no solution is found over the coming weekend then we will revert to the older Windows 2003 hosting platform while a more permanent solution can be found.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused by any malfunctions while we work towards a solution.

It would appear that some scheduled maintenance, with no anticipated down-time, has evolved into an on-going "situation", with the CHQ server being unreachable once again. Please refer to the hosting provider web site for more information.
